INTRODUCTION FRASER CAMERON QSM
Fraser was a steadfast member of the Ōpōtiki &
District 10,000 Club from its formation.
Fraser was community minded right from
the time he arrived in Ōpōtiki and set up
business.
He showed keen interest in the initial
formation of the 10,000 Club on the 11th
July 1960. From the very start he offered his
support to the then newly formed Club, set up
to actively promote Ōpōtiki and District.
Fraser was aboard during these early years
ensuring the success of many of the activities
and events “The 10,000 Club” promoted. Fraser accepting an Award for the
Events all designed to invigorate our District. Guide in 2007.
Fraser was to the fore promoting - Street Parades, Beach Carnivals, Talent Quests and Beauty
Contests early in the Clubs tenure and was there when the “10,000 Club” opened the first “Ōpōtiki
Information Centre” set up in the Town Centre.
The Ōpōtiki Holiday Guide which has been renamed to Explore The East Cape Guide also had
its origins during this time. Its longevity is a lasting tribute to citizens like Fraser.
Fraser had his first term as President from 1974 to 1976 and was again President in the 1990’s.
In all, over the preceding 58 years, Fraser has been involved in many facets of the 10,000 Club
activities and remained on the Committee, still showing a keen interest until his death on August
27th 2019 aged 89.
