      Tikitiki lies in a valley on the bend in the
      road and is reached after  having  driven
      through some pleasant farmland with areas
      of forestry development. Tikitiki contains
      much of interest to the student of the Māori.
      The  Waiapu  River  offers  good  fishing  at
      the mouth. Tikitiki has a school, a health
      centre, an R.S.A., Postal Centre and Café.
      St. Mary’s Church at Tikitiki should on
      no account be missed. The project had to
      excel  all  other  churches  and  have  Māori
      architectural design. The wonderful carvings and Tukutuku woven panels were created by
      local Ngāti Porou craftspeople and the pulpit was a gift from the Te Arawa tribe. Entry by

      Ruatoria is a left turn and 5 minute drive
      off the main highway. In the main street you
      will find Kai Kart Takeaways, Ruatoria
      Hotel  and  the  well  stocked  Hikurangi
      Foodmarket Four Square and further on
      is Enz of the Earth Guest House. Ruatoria
      has  important  Māori  connections  being
      the  centre  for  the  Ngāti  Porou  Tribe.  Sir
      Apirana Ngata lived here and is remembered
      by the Ngata Memorial College. Māori V.C.

      A new venture is Hikurangi Cannabis which has become the first New Zealand company
      to secure a license to cultivate medicinal cannabis. Hikurangi has secured significant
      investment and has strong local support to build high tech greenhouses and processing
      facilities near Ruatoria. Trial crops are underway.
