establishment of the Rocket
Lab facility at Mahia, created
excitement locally. This was
to be the very first launch of
a “first orbit class rocket” to
be launched from a private
site anywhere in the world.
This world first took place
on May 25th 2017, and it
all happened on the Mahia
peninsula near Wairoa. There
have been 8 further rockets
launched since, all successful,
all enhancing the further Electron fully fuelled, Mahia Peninsula 2017
development of the “Rocket
Lab project”. Plans to launch reusable rockets are advanced and that know how is ready
to be tested over the coming months. This will ultimately allow a more frequent and
reliable access to orbit for small commercial satellites. The last Rocket launch on August
20th 2019 continued Rocket Labs track record of 100% mission success for customers,
further cementing the company’s status as the global leader in dedicated small satellites.
This project is creating a great opportunity for positive stimulation for this area, giving a
helping hand to the growth of the District through Employment and Tourism. Details of
