           he Ōpōtiki District ranks highly as a hospitable relaxing place to spend your
           holidays. Rotorua and Tauranga are to the north, with Gisborne further east, all
      T   in a 160km radius. Ōpōtiki District is one of the finest natural “Family Holiday
      Playgrounds”  in  New  Zealand.  A  virtual  “Sportsman’s  Paradise”.  Wonderful
      beaches and rivers allow all types of fishing, boating, surfing, swimming, kayaking
      and associated water sports and the surrounding magnificent bush lined landscape
      provides bountiful hunting and outstanding bush walks. Motu Trails Cycleway gives
      added appeal, providing a diverse range of cycle skills, for novice or experienced
      mountain bikers, or cycle or walk the fantastic beach trails. Recreational sports,
      adventure, arts and culture, it is all here in Ōpōtiki. The Muriwai Tournament –
      annual tournament featuring a range of sports between Whānau, Hapū and different
      Iwi of the local Māori. Ōpōtiki also hosts annually “The Motu Challenge Multi
      Sport Event”- a “World Class Rodeo”, the “Ōpōtiki Show Jumping and Show Hunter

        The Mussel Farm off the coast of Ōpōtiki is now producing, with production
      steadily increasing and producing green lipped mussels of extremely high quality.
        Work  is  still  continuing  on  the  Ōpōtiki  Harbour  Development,  primarily  to
      facilitate the mussel farm development based in Ōpōtiki. This would unlock a huge
      economic potential for Ōpōtiki.
