               Turanganui-a-kiwa - Gisborne

            s the first city in the world to greet the sun each morning, Turanganui-a-Kiwa
            Gisborne is the easternmost city of Aotearoa New Zealand and is also known as

      meeting at the heart of the CBD.  A unique corner of Aotearoa, Gisborne is a warm
      and welcoming destination to discover with extraordinary experiences to enjoy. From
      interactive reef tours with wild stingray to sailing away on a traditional waka hourua
      (double-hulled canoe) and exploring the East Coast on purpose-built railbikes, there’s a

       From first encounters to world-class surf  - Its sun-kissed beaches are renowned
      for world-class surf, but this is land also rich in culture and navigational heritage. Kaiti
      Beach at the base of Titirangi reserve near the city centre is the site of Captain Cook’s first
      landing in New Zealand – and the first encounter between Māori and European took place.

       A  year-round  calendar  of  events - With a flourishing arts scene and vibrant
      calendar of spectacular events all year round, Gisborne is home to the iconic New Year’s
      Music Festival Rhythm and Vines, the annual Chardonnay Affair in late May, the First
      Light Wine & Food Festival at Labour Weekend, the new Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival
      and for the 2019-2020 calendar, an internationally curated exhibit Tū te Whaihanga at
      Tairāwhiti Museum – where sacred taonga (treasures) will return to Tairāwhiti after 250
      years. Gisborne A&P show held annually in mid October is a huge celebration of all
      things pastoral incorporating all the fun of the fair. Something for all the family!
